Rebate from Tenaga Nasional

Today, for the 1st time I went and pay the electricity, water and the TM (Telekom Malaysia)’s Streamyx bill, I felt lucky because I don’t need to go different places to pay all the bills. I’m enjoying my holidays in Kampar, Perak but still someone has to pay the bills for the house that me and housemate / friends rented and Yes I’m the only one left in Kampar. While I’m waiting for my turn to pay my bills in the Tenaga Nasional Shoppe, I saw a basket with a note sticking on it which has brochures in it. It tells us that consumers who incur RM20 or less for the month’s electricity bill will not have to pay the sum from Oct 1. I did not understand fully what it mean so I when comes to my turn to pay my bills, I asked the worker what the note really mean. He told me that consumer with the electricity consumption of below RM 20 will receive the rebate directly in their bills. He further elaborate that “If a consumer’s bill is less than RM20 for a particular month and has no outstanding amount, the bill will then be RM0, and will be stated as “government rebate”.

My point of view (P.O.V)

I understand that the government of the fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants to help the people to lessen their burden by giving us some so called rebates, such as our petrol rebate and now our electricity rebate… Hoooooraaaaayyyy!!! Thank you so much Mr. Prime Minister, but now can you tell me how will this help me? Let me get this straight with an example (I think will agree that this is Kisah Benar):-

What electrical items that a poor or middle class have in their house?

- Refrigerator (On 24 hours per day) (I guess most of us agree that refrigerator is no longer a rich people only item)
- Living room fan (When their mother or children will just sit and watch TV there.)
- Room fan (Night time means sleeping time, assuming an 8 hours sleep)
- Television (Their mom and their children will want to watch it right? Day -mom, Afternoon/Evening - Kids and Night - Themselves)
- Lighting (Of course they need light; I mean who doesn’t use them?)
- Water heater (Yes I know not everyone has it, I mean if they have it, it will be a factor isn‘t it?)

There are some other electrical items that household have but the above list will proved that in a month a normal family would never have got the rebate from the so called “Rebate for the1.1 million low-income households”. Soaring profits are required or expected from TNB to cover the ass of the government’s so called rebate and as we all know the tariff for our electricity has already increased so the point is
Does RM 20 it sounds helpful enough? Or should the question be “Can most of the low-income family benefit from this so called rebate?”

If I had misinformed any of the information above please e-mail it to me or leave me a message in my chat box. Thank You.
