The True Meaning of Customer Service.

 

What is the meaning of customer service? Or what’s  the meaning of “True” in this post?

work for customers: work done for the customers of a shop, restaurant, hotel, or similar establishment, often with regard to whether it pleases them or not

I’m sure most of us had been served, be it a banking service, dining service, ‘mamak’ service, the service you get when you buy something – newspaper, snacks or even Sexual services! And it will make a customer remember who you are and what you did for them in the past or what type of service you gave and how you treat them, the way you speak and your patient to explain the kind of product or service you are selling to them. Strange enough it does makes me wonder why in the world people just can’t give an “OK” service for their customer? Most of the time people do not demand an extraordinary services but if that establishment or person are able to provide the “Wow” factor to their customers it will definitely be a plus for their brand or their reputation.

I am studying in UTAR Kampar and thanks to UTAR the place is growing quite fast especially some food prices in certain shops though not higher than Kuala Lumpur, and what really amuse me is that I don’t demand a really good service from the banks(PBBANK), shopping markets(Tenaga- not the electric company),Mamak store(Maha Maju), Westlake Guard, UTAR guard.

What I really want to point out in this post is that Mahamaju(Mamak) and the UTAR + Westlake Guards gave me a BLADY “Tiu hui” MOTHER “Chao Hai” FUCKING SHIT SERVICE. Yes you may ask me is it really that bad until you need to combine the Chinese and English bad words? and the answer is YES!(to me)

Lets start off with the bad and Mr. Baldy from Mahamaju tops off my list of “The Baddest Service provider in Kampar Perak”. This man Mr. Bald is the owner and his business had been great ever since UTAR started their operation in Kampar, if you compare all the mamak store in Kampar you will see that their business is really flying off and not stopping for fuel YET!

Let me list my top ten BAD of MahaMaju.

1. It takes a lot energy and time to call a waiter to come.
2. It takes at least half an hour for your drinks to come.- I waited 1 hour for mine when watching Man Utd VS Chelsea.
3. It takes 30-45 minutes for your food to come.- I fake the waiter for my IndoMee to come earlier but still 20 minutes needed.
4. It takes again at least 30 minutes for the boss to come and collect money.(If he never forgets)
5. POOR service from the BOSS then his staff follows the boss.
6. No RESPECT!(We are students but we are YOUR PROFITS provider, IDIOTS)
7. Stupid Boss- can  afford to open a Air-Conditioned shop for customer but can’t hire extra staff to improve operations. – the word is efficiency and effectiveness go learn man!
8. Not recommending the customer when asked about what is good to eat cause he would eat almost anything food you recommend.
9. Claimed to have 99 type of ‘Roti’ but in fact just minor changes in every ‘Roti’

10. and here comes the Worst-

Me: Hey boss, BOSS!!, Ah Neh, NEH!!

after 10-15minutes

Baldy Boss: Ya order?

Me: Today I don’t know to eat come on tell me what to eat, what special today?

Baldy Boss: Ehh you jangan main lah you mahu makan, makan tak mahu makan pergi!

Me: (In mind) Fuck you! you think your mamak very special?(In heart) I swear I won’t go to your place anymore you have the worst service man!

If the service you are getting is free of charge then maybe you can still accept such non-sense and ridiculous service but I’m paying, MONEY! cold hard cash damn it! Which one would you prefer to give your money to next time? -

• The service in this restaurant is lousy.

or……

• You can never get this service in anywhere!

Now for the good and GREAT services and the flaws and BAD services in Kampar!

I believe most of us at least heard this movie title before if not watch it. Its amazingly wonderful to watch such a man with a low education level could come up with an idea and made USD 1 million in a day, and purchase much valuable property in America. Mr. Frank Lucas was born in the 30’s where the Stock Market crashes and hurts a lot of people financially, if you don’t know who is him let me give a bit of introduction -

Frank Lucas (born September 9, 1930[4] in La Grange, North Carolina and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina[5]) is a former heroin dealer and organized crime boss who operated in Harlem during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was particularly known for cutting out middlemen in the drug trade and buying heroin directly from his source in the Golden Triangle. Frank Lucas is popularly known for smuggling heroin using the coffins of dead American servicemen,[6] a claim his South Asian associate, Leslie "Ike" Atkinson denies.[7] His career was dramatized in the 2007 feature film American Gangster.

Brand in the 30’s isn’t a big deal and a normal entrepreneur in the 30s would just start a business or shop without even the word ‘Brand’ come to mind but somehow Frank Lucas manage to learn what Coca-Cola and Pepsi were doing back then and put Blue Magic as a brand, a product that represent The Frank Lucas Corp. Do you know the brand value of Coca-Cola today? It’s in BILLION!! just the brand alone, its crazy.

His method of cutting off middleman and getting the supply from the source are defying the norms, the normal way it is therefore upsetting a lot of people, people who would kill him or make him go out of business. Doing such would require an enormous courage or BALLS, in the movie he is portrayed as a man of low importance at first but this gave him an advantage before he meets his wife the “Home Coming Queen” from Puerto Rico and a coat that cost US$125,000 cause him trouble by attracting attention he had been trying to avoid. He kept his life in a low profile and he chose his family, people who he could trust and gave all of them a department to run in order to keep the business efficient.   

This movie definitely shows a lot of value which one could learn and applied in his life. I’m sure all of us could learn something in the movie too. I wanted to thank Denzel Washington who did an amazing acting in the movie and Jay-Z for him songs for the movie and of course Mr. Frank Lucas himself.

TWILIGHT

The other day I said I was bored and went to ipoh for some movie time and this is my T.O.L. for the movie. This is quite an interesting movie, it makes being a vampire cool for the incredible strength, lighting speed, and of course immortality. But if you are a Chinese who watched the trilogy of “My Date With a Vampire” (1,2,3.) you would definitely watching an English movie with Chinese ideas in it, but for this time instead of a Chinese vampire it turn out to be a non asian. Some how this give me the same feeling I had when The Departed came out copying the trilogy of Infernal Affairs (Again). Well I have no hard feeling for them as we copied from them too, music, movies, ideas, method, technique, system, tactics but this shows that Chinese movies are quality able too and this makes me proud of my ethnic which is Chinese. Award Winning Movies are not easy to make (I‘m not talking about porn) it takes a great actor, director, scriptwriter, and etc, all of them plays an important part in making a movie to become eminent.

Well twilight is really boring to me and with some many uncivilized "Kid" or "LALA chai" behind me making noises like nobody's business or as if their fathr own that place. My rate for this show will definitely be 2 star out of 5 because the story line are not interesting, there are no pretty girls not to mention 'Hot' even though my friend told me the guy is quite hot and the only cool part is the ideas they copied from My Date With a Vampire which is the strength, speed, and immortality and the funny part is the vampire's body will not get burnt when it make contacts with sun light but it glitters I guess they are trying to attract more under-under-underaged girls to love the main man but too bad I'm not a girl(Thank God).

High School’s Memories
14th of December 2008

Today as usual waking up to my usual habits of smoking(which I aim to quit) and feeling quite boring in the afternoon, so I decided to go to Ipoh Parade for some movies(I‘m fine with whatever movies just as long as I‘m watching movie today) then for some Ipoh food and some ambience of the state’s main city. When I reached Ipoh Parade the first thing I saw after parking my car on the top roof was the taekwondo ITF competition which consist of Taeguek and Sparring competition, when I saw it, my mind once again has flown back to high school, the time when I was still practicing Taekwondo but it is WTF and not ITF. Let me give a brief explanation between the two, WTF is the first to establish it self and it came from Korea mainly in the south, then some how a guy in WTF didn’t like something and try to change it and establish another one known as ITF and it is mainly practiced in the North Korea(There may be some political influences here.) and people somehow tells me WTF fights better than ITF that what I heard not what I’m trying to imply it here Now, let go back to my story, I must admit I’m not the best fighter in my school but I did try my best when I practice and with that somehow I get my instructor’s attention and he gave me a chance to go for a taekwondo competition in Kelana Jaya(the memories still vividly stays in my mind just like watching a film of my life) and all of us train hard for it including watching the food we consume. 

If I’m not mistaken there are four of us competing for a medal and honor for our school and I’m very nervous as it was my first fight for taekwondo in my life but still I know I must not fail because I’m nervous. I get a chance to meet my opponent too, he was red belted and me yellow!! (This is really funny but higher does not mean better fighter) he is bigger than me but I’m not frightened. When our fight was on it didn’t really last for long but somehow I feels like very long in the ring. 

Let’s cut this short.

In the end I manage to get a medal and honor for my school while others didn’t, maybe I’m lucky maybe I’m not. I’m not bragging here, I’m just happy that maybe I get a weaker opponent compared with them, well this is just my memories from high school.

Question: MBA is it necessary in the current Global Financial Turmoil? 

This is my second post since coming back from Sarawak and I manage to spend some time on reading some articles from Harvard Business School and it caught my attention to give some of my T.O.L.(Thinking. Opinion. Life Experience.) The story of MBA goes like this - 100 years ago HBS got the balls to launch a program which is being recognized as MBA and became the world’s top business school and made a lot of Universities to follow them and so it has only affected the education industry but also the business and you know when the business industry is affected you can actually predict a lot of things will be affected that includes ME! Therefore I wish to point out some of my T.O.L. and hopefully I’m right about it.

 Leadership.
Leadership is something that can’t be taught in a classroom, as much as the top universities are trying to prove leadership is something which could be taught in a classroom, they failed! They must have gotten the truth that leaders are made outside the classroom and not inside and according to Mr. Mihnea Moldoveanu (DBA '97) of the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, the MBA is in crisis "because it selects for and cultivates traits and skills [tied to specific disciplinary knowledge] that are increasingly vacuous and superfluous." Moreover the MBAs don't understand the practice of leadership or have sufficient awareness of their impact on others.MBA students can't grasp the meaning of leadership because they have never led anything.



Theoretical VS Practical ability
Ah, Theories how we love them, they provoke minds of people who just are just too innovative or creative just because they found a way more efficient or effective for the changed environment or the changed social-demographic they need to prove to the a lot of people that it works, (This is not as easy as it sounds) “MBA education at most schools has drifted too far into theory and has relatively little relevance for practice”
Business will always be business, that said MBAs does not guarantees a success in business in other words having a MBA 1st honor will not make you the next Donald Trump. Do you ever wonder why some people who doesn’t have a MBA or even finish high school became millionaires let alone BILLIONAIRES? I think it’s the practical work in business they manage to experiences or the skills they acquire while working as a respect less job? Let me name a few, Mr. Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, and our very own Mr. Lim Goh Tong of Malaysia, all of them are Billionaires who didn’t have a MBAs but their achievements are superb.

Technology & Knowledge Era  

“It's more global, more technology dependent, and less hierarchical. Knowledge-based industries are overtaking older, more basic industries. And the pace of change is quickening.” 

There are three era that each country in the world will supposedly go through which is Agricultural, Industrial, and the now Tech & Brain age will thrive until we experience another one. As you can see with your own eyes that old industries are getting a beat from a new industry that spur from a new technology and with technology, everything in the world are changing so fast that you almost getting outdated if you don’t update yourself. Therefore I can boldly assume that most MBAs in Malaysia does not really have the understanding or expertise in technology that matters. Furthermore there are a lot of factors that MBAs in Malaysia is not really competent compared to the world, if there is money politics, there are also “educo” money(I‘ll be back with this topic.)

I sure hope that MBAs in Malaysia will contribute to a competitive business environment. But…..never mind, by the way this is just my T.O.L. (Thinking. Opinion. Life Experiences)
